The Diocesan
Youth Organiser of the Accra Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Rev
Edward Niikwei Okine has advised the youth to treat people with respect and adopt
a character that reflects that of Christ Jesus.
According to him, “If the disciple who is a learner
is able to portray the lifestyle of Christ in all aspects of his or her life,
then he or she is seen to manifest the character of Christ”.
Rev Okine was speaking to youth drawn from various
Circuits in the Accra Diocese at the 61st Synod Youth Rally held at
the Joseph Afotey Aku-Boye Memorial Methodist Chapel, located in the Teshie
Circuit of the Church on Saturday, April 16, 2022.
The annual event which is spearheaded by the Diocesan
Youth Development Ministry (YDM) brings together young people from the various
Circuits within the Diocese to rally support for, and create awareness on the
Synod.
Speaking on the theme “Discipleship: The Character
of the Christian Youth”, Rev Okine who was representing the Methodist Bishop of
Accra, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey noted that character is the most
sought after virtue in the history of all institutions. “Whether corporate,
private, public, secular or religious, what makes this virtue so crucial lies
only with the individual”, he observed, adding “treat people with respect,
strangers with courtesy and never look down on anyone”.
Present at the event were the Superintendent Minister
of the Teshie Circuit, the Very Rev Seth Bentum Tackie, the Minister in-charge
of the J. A. Aku-Boye Memorial Methodist Church, the Very Rev Samuel Adjei Annan
and Bro Francis Forson, the Teshie Circuit Steward.
The rally saw participants match across some major
streets in Teshie with placards displaying messages on the salvation of Jesus Christ
amidst brass band music by the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade.
