ACCRA DIOCESE CELEBRATES WORLD FEDERATION DAY
Story: Emmanuel Ashong, Adabraka
The
Accra Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana has celebrated this year’s World
Federation Day with a special Church Service in Accra.
The
Day which is spearheaded by the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting
Church Women, is celebrated annually around the world to unite women in common
studies based on the previous World Assembly’s Resolutions and emerging world
issues: and to help engage members in study and action arising from these
issues.
World
Federation Day also commemorates the signing of the original charter of the World
Federation of Methodist Women on October 26, 1939.
Women
from various Circuits in the Accra Diocese assembled at the Rev Ernest Bruce
Memorial Methodist Chapel, Adabraka to mark the Day with a special Church
Service held on October 26, 2022. The Service which was organised under the
auspices of the Accra Diocesan Gender, Family and Social Intervention Office had
the Director of Gender, Family and Social Intervention Directorate of The
Methodist Church Ghana, the Very Rev Comfort Ruth Quartey-Papafio in
attendance.
In
a sermon, Very Rev Quartey-Papafio underscored the need for the day and
encouraged women to help in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) pertaining
to gender and women’s development.
The
Rev Hedwig Naa Tolloo Quist, a Minister in New Aplaku Circuit and the Rev Mary
Sarblah, a Circuit Minister in the Adabraka Circuit led an interaction with
congregants on the theme for the Day: ‘Poverty, Hunger and Education: Focusing
on Developing Sustainable Women Empowerment’.
Also
in attendance was the Superintendent Minister of the Adabraka Circuit, the Very
Rev Emmanuel N. A. Wellington, the Accra Diocesan Coordinator for Gender Family
and Social Intervention, Sis Rebecca Nettey and representatives from various
Circuits within the Diocese.
