Story: Sarah Naa Merley Mensah & Emmanuel Ashong, Accra

The Accra Diocesan Methodist Youth Fellowship has planted three (3) new churches in the New Aplaku Circuit of The Methodist Church Ghana.

The move forms part of the Fellowship’s annual evangelism initiative dubbed ‘Easter With The Lord’, which affords members the opportunity to reach out to people and communities with the word of God. “It is a drive for evangelism and soul winning in fulfillment of the great commission”, Diocesan Chairman of the Fellowship, Bro Jude Otsedzen told our reporter.

This year’s edition took place from April 14 - 17, 2022 at the New Aplaku Circuit which has been declared a mission area within the Accra Diocese. Members of the Fellowship numbering over 100 pitched camp in six communities within the Kokrobite - Bortianor enclave and reached out to residents with door-to-door evangelism, night film shows, dawn broadcasts etc. Open air revivals were held in five of the communities namely Langma, Oshiyie, Red Top Mr Obeng, Aglow Farms and Kasoa Brigade.

At the Sea View community, 37 people comprising 18 adults and 19 children met for their maiden worship Service on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022 in the newly planted church. Preaching the sermon, the Accra Diocesan Youth Organiser, the Rev Edward Niikwei Okine spoke about the power and benefits of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and led congregants in a prayer session.

The Methodist Bishop of Accra, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey who preached the sermon at the newly planted church at Kasoa Brigade, also visited all the other camps and encouraged members for the initiative.

Speaking to our reporter on the success of the programme, Bro Otsedzen noted that it was “very successful because this is the first time we have planted three churches at ago. In previous years, we planted one church at a time”. On measures put in place to ensure the survival of the churches, he disclosed that members of the Fellowship will be designated to each of the newly planted churches for the next six months to ensure effective follow-up.
